The first who dramatically confronted Salieri and Mozart
was Pushin in 1830 his "Mozart i Salieri". Antonio Salieri has reached
glory, conquered at a cost of much sacrifice when suddenly a young genius
from Salsburg appears.
It is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who compose wonderful music, effortlessly.
Salieri is so envious that he decides to eliminate him, and so he invites him to lunch. At the inn, Mozart tells Salieri he had been visited by a strange, unknown man whom had commissioned a "Requiem ", and after having drunk from the poisoned cup given by Salieri, he plays a passage from the Requiem, for him.
Don Juan, with his servant Leporello, comes back from exile
where he had been for having killed the 'Commendatore' in Madrid because he
wants to conquer the young actress Laura, at all costs.
But at the cemetery he meets Donna Anna praying and crying, upon her husband, the 'Commendatore's tomb.
Don Juan manages to arrange an appointment with her at her house but he ironically asks the statue of the 'Commendatore' to stand guard outside the gates while he is with the lady.
Of course just when Anna is going to give way to Don Juan enticements the statue appears, frightening his wife, who faints.
Don Juan accepts the challenge of the 'Commendatore' which is to prove to be his death.
A Party During the Plague
This is a rearrangement of John Wilson's poem The City of
Plague 1816, the dominant theme of which is death It can be considered the
last of the little tragedies' as Pushin himself defined them.
Attention is focused on two arias; Mary's which describes the devastation wrecked by the plague in her village, and the President's aria, who holds the party which launches a hymn in honour of the plague.
